Why does my tub lid have a gap? Will it still seal?Updated 3 hours ago
Overview
Some customers notice that their Modtub lid doesn’t sit flush with the tub body or that there are visible gaps. This article explains why that happens, why it’s normal, and why it doesn’t affect your tub’s performance.
Why gaps happen
Molding process: The body and lid are molded separately. Because of this, it’s nearly impossible to get a “perfect” visual alignment every time.
Temperature expansion: Plastic naturally expands and contracts with changes in temperature. On hot days the gap may look smaller; on cold days it may appear larger.
Why performance is unaffected
Your tub is designed with an oversized gasket around the lid — much larger than what’s standard in the industry.
This gasket compresses against the tub body every time the lid closes, creating a tight seal.
Even if the lid doesn’t line up cosmetically, the seal still protects performance, temperature control, and cleanliness.
What this means for you
Gaps are aesthetic only. They are not considered a defect and are not eligible for replacement.
You can rest assured your Modtub is performing exactly as it should.
