What to Do if Your Modtub Power Strip Trips the GFCI
If water gets into the power strip mounted on your Modtub, the GFCI outlet may trip as a safety precaution. This can temporarily shut off your pump and chiller. Don’t worry, this is a common and fixable issue. Follow the steps below to get everything working again.
Step-by-Step: How to Resolve the Issue
Unplug the equipment
Safely unplug both the pump and chiller from the power strip.
Then, unplug the power strip itself from the outlet.
Remove the power strip
Gently take the power strip out of its mounting bracket so you can handle it separately.
Dry the power strip
Shake out any visible water.
Use a cool blow dryer (not heat) to carefully dry inside and outside the strip.
If you don’t have a blow dryer, you can also leave the strip outside in a dry, shaded area until all moisture has evaporated.
Reinstall and test
Once the power strip is completely dry, re-mount it, plug it back in, and reconnect your pump and chiller.
Reset your GFCI outlet if needed.
Important: Do not use the power strip until it is fully dry. Using it while damp may cause it to trip again or create a safety risk.
Tips to Help Prevent This in the Future
Keep water away from the strip – When filling or cleaning your Modtub, avoid splashing water toward the mounted power strip.
Add temporary protection – You can cover the strip with a plastic container, waterproof housing, or even a simple weather shield while in use.
Regularly inspect – Check the strip after heavy use to make sure it’s dry and secure in its bracket.
Future solution – We are working on an improved enclosure to better protect the mounted power strip. We’ll share updates once available.
