F and P Values on your pump controller (hygger model)Updated a year ago
We often get asked about the what the settings on the pump remote control means, and what it should be showing. Read below with some more information on that topic:
The F value is what % the pump is turned up to. For example, F100 means that is turned up to 100% of its capability. F70 means that is turned up to 70% of its capability. The P value stands for Power in watts that the pump is pulling. For these centrifugal pumps, they pull the most power when they are flowing freely, and they pull less power when there is blockage (i.e. filter clogged, valve closed, etc.) which can seem a bit counterintuitive. Therefore, the P value is correlated to flow rate, but that is not exactly what it is measuring.
Therefore, saying a specific P value means your filter needs to be changed is not always the best measurement. but it can be indicative that there is blockage causing the pump to pull less power. Your filter needs to be changed when you notice low flow on the inside of the tub and/or the chiller is not getting an accurate temperature reading.
As for what that means for customers, you can set the flow rate to whatever F value you prefer. The pumps will likely have a longer life and use less energy if you set them down to F070, and this still provides adequate flow for the chiller.
